The United States military has launched a preemptive strike on its own territories in the Pacific Ocean. The strike hit several uninhabited islands and atolls, and the world would like to know why.
Officials call it a precautionary measure to eliminate potential threats to national security. Critics believe the real purpose was to have something to blame on somebody in the event of a global conflict.
The timing is suspicious. The strike came just hours after the Goblin Council of Elders' fiery assault on the YGCA headquarters. Some theorists believe Washington saw the fireball, feared retaliation from whoever caused it and decided to get the retaliation in first, against itself, so it could blame a foreign adversary later.
GNN's sources in the Pentagon say every branch of the armed forces is on high alert for retaliation from foreign powers and from the Goblin Nation, which has not yet worked out what it is supposed to be retaliating for.
Goblins are advised to avoid unnecessary travel to the Pacific and to keep a spare pair of enchanted socks handy.
