Ol' Reliable is back. The Goblin Council of Elders has fired up the titanic shredder that ate the national archives last winter, and this time it is eating orcish history books.
GNN reporters, disguised as potted ferns, watched the elders gleefully feed priceless orcish tomes into its maw, laughing as they went. The chamber smelled of burning parchment, and orcish historians could be heard weeping in the corridor.
"This is cultural genocide!" said Grungle Gristle from inside his fern. "The Council is erasing the history and heritage of an entire people. It's a crime against knowledge, a travesty against civilization!"
The Council has not explained itself. Some believe it is erasing evidence of past atrocities against the orcs. Others think it is just suppressing dissent. A third camp notes that the Council has spent the past week insisting orcs aren't real, and that this would be a strange thing to do with the books of people who don't exist.
Human rights groups and cultural preservation societies have called for an immediate halt.
The Orcish Liberation Front (OLF), a militant group long at odds with the Council, has vowed revenge. "The Council will pay for its crimes against our people!" a masked spokesperson said in a video message. "We will not rest until our history is restored!"
The ferns have asked to be reassigned.
