Goblin Scientists' "Mini-Doom Ball" Experiment Ends in Catastrophic Court Collapse

Published: June 30, 2025 at 7:50 PM

The Goblin Institute of Questionable Science (IQS) has field-tested the Mini-Doom Ball. It arranged a pickup game on a remote, uninhabited island, reasoning that isolation would contain any fallout.

The game, a free-for-all between goblin scientists, lab assistants and a few unsuspecting seagulls, escalated as the ball began to show its properties: erratic bounces, sparks, strange noises and a general disregard for gravity.

The ball's full power was revealed when a particularly athletic goblin, fueled by adrenaline and a fermented mushroom energy drink, went up for a slam dunk.

The moment the ball touched the rim, a shockwave of pure chaos shattered the backboard, vaporized the hoop and caused the entire island to implode. It left a crater the size of Manhattan, a swirling vortex of seawater and a few bewildered seagulls clinging to floating debris. The basket counted.

The scientists returned to Mudwick Isle miraculously unscathed, apart from singed eyebrows and a new aversion to basketball.

"We may have underestimated the Mini-Doom Ball's destructive potential," admitted Dr. Gnarfsplat, eyeing the smoking remains of his clipboard. "But hey, at least we proved it works!"

The Goblin Council of Elders, initially thrilled at the prospect of a superweapon, is now reconsidering its investment, citing collateral damage, international environmental organizations and the seagulls' union.

The players have been hailed as heroes, or at least lucky survivors. The site, now called Dunk Crater, has become a pilgrimage spot for thrill-seeking goblins and curious tourists, who stand at the rim in silence and then, inevitably, try to dunk something into it.
