Are we blinking, or just thinking we're blinking?
Researchers at GIDoR have proposed a radical theory: eyelids may not exist.
"We've studied eyelid closure for centuries," said Dr. Grungle Squint, the lead researcher, "and found no scientific evidence that eyelids exist. They are a figment of our collective imagination."
The theory rests on one experiment. Goblins were asked to close their eyes and report whether a lamp was on or off. They got it right almost every time, suggesting their eyelids were not blocking anything.
"Eyelids may be a social construct," Dr. Squint said, "a shared delusion we've all agreed to believe in." Asked why he was squinting, he said that was a different study.
Scholars are divided. Some call the finding revolutionary. Others cite centuries of personal experience.
"I can feel my eyelids blinking right now!" said Elder Gnarltooth, who was filmed rubbing his eyes throughout a recent press conference. "Are these scientists saying I'm imagining my own body parts?"
GNN invites every goblin to look closely at their own eyelids and decide. It is harder than it sounds.
