TITUSVILLE, FL — Local chess player Timmy "Pawn Sacrifice" Puddlewick, known for his 600 Elo rating and questionable openings, has knocked grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura off the top of the Chess.com blitz ladder. The secret to his rise is a Neuralink implant gone awry.
Puddlewick, a self-described "chess enthusiast" who once tried to castle with his queen, had the experimental procedure to cure his chronic hiccups. It did not cure the hiccups. It did give him superhuman chess.
"I still can't stop hiccuping, but now I see chess patterns everywhere," Puddlewick said in a post-match interview, his eyes darting around the room like a knight on a caffeine binge. "The board talks to me, man. It's totally tubular."
Experts are baffled. "His moves are nonsensical and brilliant," said grandmaster Susan Polgar. "He's playing four-dimensional chess while the rest of us are still on cardboard."
Puddlewick remains clueless about the theory. "I don't know what the Sicilian Defense is," he said, "but it sounds delicious."
Neuralink CEO Elon Musk congratulated Puddlewick on his "unintentional upgrade" in a post that has since gone viral, adding that Neuralink implants are not intended for chess enhancement. Yet.
"I'm still the same ol' Timmy," Puddlewick said, and hiccuped. "Just with a few extra pawns in my pocket."
