Gigglesnout's execution has been postponed indefinitely, swallowed by a series of drawn-out and increasingly absurd tribunal hearings. The Council, once eager to make an example of the whistleblower, has been worn down by the arguments of his court-appointed defense team: a retired mime, a conspiracy theorist and a particularly verbose mushroom enthusiast.
The tribunals became the talk of Mudwick Isle, and goblins tuned in to GNN every day for the latest courtroom antics. Witnesses testified on the existential nature of pixies, the nutritional value of fermented mushrooms and the aerodynamic properties of rubber chickens.
"This is a mockery of justice," said Elder Gnarltooth. "We have sat through day after day of nonsense, including sock puppets and interpretive dance. Enough is enough."
The other elders agreed, in a rare moment of unity, to end the farce.
"All right, all right," sighed Elder Fungella, rubbing her temples. "We'll spare his life. On one condition: he becomes our official court jester."
Gigglesnout, who had been practicing his juggling in the holding cell, was overjoyed. "I knew my comedic talents would come in handy someday," he said, juggling a set of rusty daggers with impressive dexterity.
His first official act as court jester was a scathing satire of the Council's incompetence and decision-making. It drew uproarious laughter and a few nervous glances, and the elders have asked for it in writing so their lawyers can look at it.
