The Goblin People's Republic lasted two days.
Sources close to the Council say the elders, mid-rampage, had a sudden realization: they were already in power.
"There seems to have been a slight misunderstanding," mumbled Elder Gnarltooth, sheepishly lowering his flamethrower. "We got so caught up in revolutionary fervor that we forgot we were the ones calling the shots all along."
The Council has formally apologized to GGG, blaming the destruction on "a temporary lapse in judgment brought on by excessive mushroom stew and Trotsky audiobooks."
GGG has accepted, along with a hefty compensation package: a lifetime supply of premium Goblin Gummies and exclusive access to the rebuilt GGG VIP lounge.
"We're glad this is cleared up," said Grublina, GGG's chief executive, surveying the ruins. "And who doesn't love free gummies?" GGG owns Goblin Gummies, so the Council is compensating her with her own product, paid for by the Council.
"Typical elders," scoffed Grungle Brinejaw. "They can't even stage a proper revolution. At least it was entertaining."
The elders promise to focus on pressing matters: the gnome brain shortage, and the disappearance of Mr. Nibbles, the GNN newsroom's pet hamster.
