The money is gone. Millions in gold set aside for the GI Bill have vanished from the Goblin Veterans Affairs department, leaving veterans with moldy rations and a pat on the back.
"An absolute disgrace!" said Supreme Leader Grungle, in a statement both furious and suspiciously defensive.
The VA's own statement took a different line. "While we acknowledge the unfortunate disappearance of the funds, our veterans are still better off than before," it read. "They now have the chance to embrace the true goblin spirit of resilience and resourcefulness."
It went on to list the valuable lessons veterans had learned: never trust officials, never expect help, and always rely on your own wits.
Veterans are protesting across Mudwick Isle, chanting "Where's our gold?" and "Grungle, you're a grinch!"
The Council has promised a thorough investigation. It is forming a task force.
