A festive piñata party for young cadets outside the Goblin Council of Elders' headquarters went off early this morning, in both senses.
The piñata exploded ahead of schedule and showered the plaza with confetti, candy and a mountain of poorly shredded, deeply incriminating documents. The Council's shredder, it turns out, cuts in strips, and strips can be read.
GNN reporters, who were conveniently and suspiciously nearby, sifted the debris and found a trove of evidence against Elder Gurglax: embezzlement, bribery and the illicit trafficking of fermented mushroom juice.
"This is a bombshell," said Grungle Gristle, GNN's Chief Analyst, waving a strip detailing Gurglax's offshore accounts. "It proves what we've suspected all along. The Council is rotten to the core."
The blast caused minor injuries, mostly paper cuts and sugar rushes, and a full-blown political crisis. Calls for Gurglax's resignation are growing by the minute, and some goblins want the entire Council dissolved.
Elder Gnarltooth called the explosion "a harmless prank gone wrong." The cadets called it the best piñata they've ever hit, and asked if there would be more.
