Elder Gnarltooth's preparation for the Trivia Titan Throwdown has done what no treaty could: goblins on Mudwick Isle and Rigatonia alike are glued to it. The draw is his training regimen, the "Bookworm Blitz," in which knowledge is acquired by eating very large quantities of books.
The method belongs to his trainer, Gnarlbert the Gluttonous, a reclusive goblin scholar famous for his appetite and his encyclopedic knowledge of obscure trivia, much of it acquired by eating encyclopedias. Gnarlbert holds that consuming a physical text absorbs its knowledge directly into the brain, bypassing the tedious business of reading.
Under the watch of a team of goblin nutritionists and several concerned librarians, trainer and elder have toured libraries around the world, eating their way through quantum physics, ancient goblin mythology and everything in between.
"It's an all-you-can-eat buffet for the mind," said Gnarlbert, his mouth smeared with ink and paper. "We've finished the entire Encyclopedia Goblintannica and half the Dewey Decimal System. He's getting smarter by the minute."
Gnarltooth, asked for comment, burped up a Shakespearean sonnet.
GNN has broadcast the Blitz live, with close-ups of the pair chomping leather-bound tomes. Goblins from both islands are cheering them on, donating books and sharing their own knowledge-laden snacks, such as fermented mushroom jerky and pickled encyclopedia pages.
Rigatonian viewers have mostly been donating the dictionaries.
