TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Barley Sniffington, a charismatic Golden Retriever and canine rights advocate, has become the first bipedal, opposable-thumbed, culturally fluent dog (BDCD) elected to the Titusville Goblin Legislative Council.
Sniffington ran on better access to education and healthcare for BDCD and on cooperation between goblins and dogs. His slogan, "Paws for Progress," carried him to a landslide in Tuesday's election.
"This is a momentous occasion for all BDCD," Sniffington said in his victory speech. "We have proven that we are members of society with a voice and a vision, and thumbs." He pledged to represent dogs and goblins alike.
BDCD communities celebrated. Some goblin conservatives questioned whether a dog can represent all constituents, and pointed to the moment in his victory speech when a mail carrier walked past the window.
Sniffington's first motion, to make every council meeting end with a walk, passed 7-0. His second, to investigate the mail carrier, was tabled.
