"La Bamba" Mania Sweeps Goblin Nation, Threatening Established Order

Published: July 20, 2025 at 5:15 PM

A new craze has swept across Mudwick Isle, captivating goblins of every age and social stratum: Ritchie Valens' "La Bamba." The infectious rhythm and, to goblin ears, nonsensical lyrics have ignited a dance frenzy that threatens the authority of the Goblin Council of Elders.

From the bustling marketplace to the depths of the Groovy Grotto, goblins can be seen twirling, shaking and stomping to "La Bamba." Even the sternest elders have been caught humming it while conducting official business, betraying a hint of involuntary toe-tapping.

Traditionalists fear the goblins are losing touch with their cultural heritage. "This is madness!" exclaimed one disgruntled elder, failing to suppress a rhythmic head bob. "We are goblins, not mariachi band members! We should be celebrating our own music, not some human's catchy tune about a boat."

GNN, ever eager to ride a trend, has fueled the mania with round-the-clock coverage: interviews with goblin dance instructors, musicologists analyzing the song's hidden meaning (which may or may not involve fermented mushrooms), and a "La Bamba" dance competition with a grand prize of a lifetime supply of guacamole.

The Council, at first dismissive, has grown alarmed. It fears the obsession is distracting goblins from more important matters, such as the ongoing pixie conflict, the looming threat of economic collapse and the urgent need to develop a weaponized basketball.

In a bid to regain control, the Council has banned all public performances of "La Bamba," threatening violators with fines, imprisonment and a forced listening session of Grungle's Garage Gab. The ban has only fueled the rebellion. Underground "La Bamba" parties have sprung up in secret locations across the island, and at least one of them was in the Council chambers.
