The Goblin Council of Elders has ended a period of silence with the closure of the Snuggly Snoring Slug bed and breakfast and the dismantling of its zipline. Back in their chambers, looking suspiciously refreshed, the elders issued a stern condemnation of the establishment's activities, citing a violation of goblin decency and a distraction from Council business.
"The recent events surrounding the Snuggly Snoring Slug have cast a shadow over our island and tarnished the reputation of this Council," the statement said. "We condemn the establishment's illicit activities and will take all necessary measures to prevent such indecency from occurring again."
It also warned the Goblin Gaming Group, the Slug's proprietors, against ventures that "undermine the moral fabric of our society." The Council declined to say what the illicit activities were or to give any details of the investigation behind the closure.
Pressed, the elders adopted a collectively bewildered expression and said they had no recollection of any zipline or questionable establishment. "Snuggly Snoring Slug? Never heard of it," said Elder Gnarltooth, adjusting his newly polished spectacles.
The Goblin Gaming Group has said nothing, which has fed speculation. Some whisper of scandalous liaisons. Others say it was a hub for illegal gambling and mushroom consumption. The zipline is gone, and the Slug stands empty.
