Big Smoke's Cluckin' Bell Order: A Culinary Conspiracy?

Published: November 1, 2024 at 12:45 PM

Big Smoke's Cluckin' Bell order in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has puzzled fans for twenty years: two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda. Is it gluttony, or a secret code?

A closer look reveals hidden depths. The order mirrors the game's themes of excess and gang life, and each item lines up with a character or plot point. The two number 9s are Smoke and Ryder's betrayal. The number 6 is the decline of the Grove Street Families. The number 7 could be CJ's return to Los Santos.

The number 45s, one with cheese, point to the Ballas' power and their ties to corrupt cops (the cheese). The large soda washes down the bitter taste of betrayal.

The order is San Andreas itself: a chaotic mix of flavors, a commentary on the city's dark underbelly, and proof that a simple meal can hold profound meaning.

Cracking the code

Rockstar Games is famous for its Easter eggs, and the peculiar "number 45s" strongly suggest a hidden message. The leading theories:

  • Numerical cipher: 4 and 5 are D and E, the 4th and 5th letters of the alphabet. Add the 9s (I), the 6 (F) and the 7 (G) and you get DEIFG, which is one letter swap and several additional letters away from DEATH.
  • Phone keypad: on a phone keypad, 4 is GHI and 5 is JKL. Between them they hold every letter of KILL.
  • Pop culture reference: the .45-caliber pistol, a common weapon in San Andreas, quietly underlining the game's gun violence.
  • Internal joke: a nonsense item to highlight Big Smoke's gluttony and the absurdity of the moment.

Rockstar Games has never commented. Cluckin' Bell could not be reached, as it does not exist.
