Point: My landlord just doesn't understand artistic expression (or basslines)
So maybe I cranked my amp a little high during my late-night jam sessions. Inspiration strikes when it strikes. Who can resist a "Stairway to Heaven" solo at 3 a.m.? Apparently, my landlord.
I get it, noise complaints aren't ideal. But this is art. My music is my lifeblood, my passion, my reason for being. What's a little inconvenience for the sake of creative expression? Mozart probably drove his neighbors crazy too, and nobody evicted him.
Sure, my basslines rattled a few picture frames, and my drum solos may have shaken the chandelier. Minor details. My landlord should be grateful for the free concerts. Who needs Spotify when there's a live band next door?
He claims my "noise pollution" is disrupting the peace and quiet of the building. Peace and quiet? That's what headphones are for.
So here I am, facing eviction for the crime of passion. I won't be silenced. I'll find a place where my music is welcomed, nay, celebrated, and I'll invite my old landlord over for a housewarming concert. He'll come around.
Counterpoint: It's not me, it's you (and your extremely loud music)
I've always considered myself a tolerant landlord. I don't mind the occasional late-night party or impromptu karaoke. This is a new level of auditory assault.
My tenant, the self-proclaimed rock star, treats the entire building as his personal concert venue. Day and night, I am subjected to blaring guitars, pounding drums and off-key vocals. My once-peaceful building is a war zone of decibels.
I've asked him to turn it down. I offered to soundproof his apartment at my own expense. He smiles, nods and turns it up.
My other tenants can't sleep, can't focus and are threatening to move out. I can't blame them. I'm barely holding on myself.
Eviction is the only option left. He seems like a nice enough guy, aside from his complete disregard for everyone else. With a heavy heart, I've served the notice. I hope he finds a place where his artistic expression won't bother anyone, and I've enclosed a pair of headphones.
