Greetings, citizens of GNN. It's your senior boots-on-the-ground wartime analyst reporting from the Centre-West, where, as ever, the ongoing... situation continues its peculiar dance of progress and regress. For those of you hoping for a decisive resolution, I have bad news: the 'unfolding' phase is, once again, largely indistinguishable from the 'folding back up' phase.
Latest reports from the front lines – which, incidentally, are still roughly where they were last cycle, and the cycle before that – indicate a burst of frenetic activity from the Snarlfangs of the Western Wastes. Sources, whose blood samples I have personally analyzed, confirm a recent push towards the infamous "Slag Heap of Inconvenience."
One Snarlfang leader, identified only as 'Pustule Grimgrip,' was reportedly heard bellowing, "Gnargh Blix, rork-blunk! Gorf-skit!" before ordering a full-frontal charge using their patented "Head-Bashing Horde" maneuver. This, as you know, typically involves several hundred units, a few dozen flail-goblins, and at least one ill-tempered cave bear. Initial reports suggest a temporary gain of approximately seven pebbles and half a rotten fungus.
Of course, no sooner had the celebratory gnashing of teeth died down than the Blood-Grubbers of the Eastern Morass, predictably, began their counter-maneuvers. A spokesman for their current 'Supreme Sludge-Lord' (I believe it's number seven this cycle, or possibly eight), responded with the eloquent retort: "Fzz-krig-grak! Snug-murgle-thunk!"
This was swiftly followed by what GNN's intelligence assets confirm was a widespread deployment of the "Flaming Snotball Catapult," clearing the way for their own "Gut-Punch Gambit" offensive. Casualties, primarily amongst the Slag Heap's already significant population of small rocks and unfortunate earthworms, were, as expected, devastating.
The Snarlfangs were pushed back, losing approximately six pebbles and the entirety of the rotten fungus they had just "liberated."
Our analysis continues to suggest that these foreign belligerents possess an extraordinary talent for both committing unspeakable atrocities upon one another and then meticulously undoing their own strategic gains. Just this past week, the Snarlfangs reportedly defiled the Blood-Grubber's sacred (to them, anyway) "Mud Pit of Ancestral Grunts," only for the Blood-Grubbers to retaliate by, well, filling it with slightly more mud. Similarly, the ritualistic flaying of captured scouts by one side is almost invariably followed by an equally ritualistic, albeit differently organized, flaying of captured scouts by the other. It's a remarkably balanced ecosystem of torment, if you squint hard enough and avert your eyes from the more... expressive parts.
So, what does this mean for the goblin people back home? It means, dear readers, that the Centre-West remains the Centre-West. Expect more sporadic outbursts of utterly senseless violence, more guttural pronouncements that defy translation (or, frankly, common sense), and more highly localized shifts in control over utterly valueless terrain.
Our analysts here at GNN predict the situation will continue to unfold and fold itself back up again, much like a perpetually surprised and slightly damp blanket. Stay informed, stay vigilant, and most importantly, stay far, far away from the Centre-West.
