Lemmy and the boys weren't just playing music, they were preaching a gospel of speed, power and life in the fast lane. "Ace of Spades" is the anthem for every gearhead with a need for speed and a thirst for adrenaline.
The pitch
The song opens by offering itself as your man if you like to gamble, and from there it's dice, cards and bad odds at full volume. Life's a gamble, baby, and we're all in. Win some, lose some, it's all the same. The pleasure is in the playing.
The danger
Then it's "playing for the high one, dancing with the devil." We push the limits, flirt with danger and laugh in the face of fear. Sevens, elevens, snake eyes: luck's a fickle mistress, and we'll take our chances on the fast lane anyway.
The bridge
Lemmy admits he's born to lose and that gambling's for fools, which is the most honest thing anyone has ever said into a microphone. And then the line every motorhead has tattooed somewhere: "I don't wanna live forever." We'd rather burn out than fade away.
Lemmy lived on his own terms, full throttle, no regrets. So crank up the volume, hit the open road, and let the engine roar. Mind the speed limit, though. Lemmy didn't, but Lemmy had a better lawyer.
