By Acting Under-Secretary for Puddles Osric Fennimore-Gloam
Like many of you, I learned on Thursday, October 1, 2026 that “Japan tightens permanent residency requirements for foreign nationals, introducing above-average income and basic Japanese-language standards while raising….” Like many of you, I immediately thought about the hedge on the east side of my property, which the Homeowners Association has asked me to trim to a height of 41 inches.
I am not a policy expert. I am a person with a hedge. But I believe the two matters are connected, in the sense that both have been on my mind this week, and I would ask the Association to consider that before Tuesday's inspection.
Some will say the news is bigger than a hedge. To them I say: you have not seen the hedge. It is 91 inches across at the widest point, and it has outlasted three Association presidents and a drainage survey.
The hedge is currently 43 inches.
